Upon graduation, posted to U.S.S. Repulse as ensign in Security division. Promoted to lieutenant, junior grade in 2359. Volunteered for part-time engineering duty, trained in weapons systems. In 2360, Shelby volunteered to lead successful away team rescue mission in Sector 37628; received commendation for bravery, promotion to lieutenant, posting as relief tactical officer. In 2361, promoted to tactical officer. In 2365, acting as Repulse tactical officer, Shelby received commendation for outstanding performance during training exercises preparing for future Borg attacks. Upon recommendation of Admiral J.P, Hanson, Shelby promoted to lieutenant commander, transferred to Starfleet Tactical at Starbase 324 in early 2366 to devise and coordinate Starfleet defenses against upcoming Borg incursion. On stardate 43989.1, Shelby and Hansen arrived on U.S.S. Enterprise to evaluate disappearance of New Providence Colony and its inhabitants on Jouret IV. Upon confirmation of Borg activity on stardate 43993.5, Shelby remained on Enterprise to assist with tactical preparations. Worked with Enterprise personnel to modify shields and weapons against attack. Shelby promoted to Commander, assumed post of first officer under field-promoted Captain Riker when Picard abducted and assimilated by the Borg. Shelby led away team on stardate 43998.5 onto Borg cube in attempt to rescue Picard; attempt failed. Shelby continued to coordinate Enterprise defenses as Borg approached Sector 001. Commanded saucer module during second, successful attempt to rescue Picard from Borg cube. Led away team to confirm neutralization of Borg after Commander Data successfully interfaced with rescued Picard and Borg Collective consciousness. Shelby afterward assigned to Starfleet Headquarters to head task force to reassemble Starfleet after loss of 39 ships at Wolf 359. In 2368, Shelby assigned as first officer of U.S.S. Excalibur under Captain Korsmo. Fought against Borg in second incursion of Sector 001 in 2372. Excalibur took heavy damage in battle; Korsmo killed. In 2373, following repairs to Excalibur, Shelby remained first officer under new captain, Mackenzie Calhoun. Currently assigned to patrol and lend humanitarian aid in Sector 221-G.
